The Samoyed Club of Austin, Inc., was
founded in 1982 by a group of people with one interest in common:
Their love for the big white dog that smiles! Our foremost
goal is the welfare and betterment of the breed! We would like to
see the breed protected and preserved in a manner that carries on an
outstanding heritage!
The Samoyed Club of Austin, Inc., is a
licensed member club of the American Kennel Club, Inc., achieving
this status in 1993. We held our first licensed specialty show in
conjunction with the Heart of Texas Cluster in May 1994! In 1995,
the club hosted the Samoyed Club of America, Inc. National Specialty
in Austin, Texas!
Our members include individuals who have
owned Sammies for over twenty-five years, to those who have just
become interested in our wonderful breed! Our members have interest
that vary from conformation showing and obedience trials, to Samoyed
Rescue, to just having a fun, loving pet!
Meetings are held bi-monthly at various
locations. Our club newsletter Sammy Tails is published and
distributed monthly. We host a yearly Samoyed Regional Specialty.
Additionally, our club takes an active role
in the community. Time and money are donated to local humane
societies. Visitations to nursing homes are made with members and
their Samoyeds. Samoyed Club of Austin Rescue works closely with
community animal shelter in assuring displaced Sammies are placed in
loving homes. A presentation entitled "Safety Around Dogs" was
produced for grades K-3 in the Austin Independent School District.
Numerous efforts are made in support of two local all breed clubs.
We have sponsored seminars, handling classes, and currently maintain
a Sammy Rescue network with other Sammy Clubs in the United States.
The Samoyed Club of Austin, Inc., was
founded with the Sammy people in mind If you are sincerely
interested in the Samoyed breed, and want to have FUN, while
learning at the same time, give us a call!
